A Guided Experience for
Clinical Product Selection

Clini-Kal is a tool designed for certified therapists using the Bara Professional platform.
It guides therapists through a simple step-by-step process, from choosing a treatment approach, system, symptom, and diagnosis to finding the most relevant herbal product and a complementary product for their patient.

Clini-Kal: the four linked selections on the Bara Professional site
01 / Overview

A Clinical Tool for Therapists

Clini-Kal is part of the Bara Professional platform, created for certified therapists working with Chinese and Western herbal products.

The goal was to make it easier for therapists to find the right product based on their patient’s needs. As part of the Comrax team, I designed the UX and UI of the tool, creating a clear process that takes therapists from their treatment approach to a relevant product recommendation.

02 / The problem

Hundreds of Products, One Short Appointment

During a session, therapists need to make decisions quickly while working with a large catalogue of herbal products, different treatment approaches, symptoms, diagnoses, and treatment protocols.

Finding the right product shouldn’t depend on knowing the catalogue by heart.

The challenge was to create a faster and more natural way to move from what the therapist already knows to the most relevant product.

  1. 01

    Too Much to Remember

With a large and growing product catalogue, finding the right option can depend heavily on the therapist’s familiarity with the products. This can be especially challenging for newer therapists.

  2. 02

    Two Treatment Approaches

Chinese and Western therapists don’t always follow the same clinical logic. The system needed to support both approaches while keeping the experience simple and familiar for each type of therapist.

  3. 03

    Search Starts Too Late

A regular product search works well when you already know what you’re looking for. Clini-Kal needed to work differently: starting with the patient’s needs and guiding the therapist toward the product.

03 / The core idea

Turn Clinical Thinking Into a Simple Flow

The main idea behind Clini-Kal was simple: build the experience around the way therapists already think. Instead of asking them to search through products, the tool follows a familiar clinical path. Each choice narrows the available options and leads naturally to the next step, until the therapist reaches a matched product and a complementary product.

How a therapist thinks

“I work with Chinese medicine. The patient has an issue related to this body system, with these symptoms and this diagnosis.”
The therapist builds a clinical picture step by step, using information they already know about the patient.

How Clini-Kal Responds

The same decisions become linked selections in Clini-Kal. Each choice narrows the available options and leads to the next, ending with a matched product and a complementary product, while keeping the experience simple and focused for the therapist.

04 / Research

Understanding How Therapists Work

The research focused on understanding how therapists approach clinical decisions, what information they need along the way, and how Chinese and Western treatment methods differ. We used these insights to define the user groups, map the information structure, and build a flow that feels natural to the way therapists already work.

Key insights

01

Therapists naturally start with the patient’s clinical picture and narrow their options from there. The experience needed to follow the same logic instead of asking them to begin with a product.

  1. 02

    Keep the Process Focused

During a session, therapists need to reach relevant information quickly. The experience needed to reduce unnecessary steps and keep each decision clear and focused. Each step was designed to show only the information needed at that point, making the process easier to follow.

  2. 03

    Support Two Ways of Working

Chinese and Western therapists use different approaches and terminology. The system needed to support both without creating two separate experiences, while keeping the journey clear for each type of therapist.

05 / AI-assisted process

AI Supporting the UX Process

AI was used as part of the UX process to help organize and explore large amounts of information. It supported tasks such as grouping research insights, structuring clinical content, exploring user needs, and testing different microcopy directions. The final structure, user flows, and design decisions were shaped through UX thinking and a clear understanding of the therapists’ needs.

Clear, Calm, and Easy to Navigate

The final interface keeps the focus on the task, with a clean layout, clear visual hierarchy, and simple interactions. Each step shows only what the therapist needs at that moment, making the experience easy to follow from the first selection to the final product recommendation.

The interface was designed for RTL use and follows the visual language of Bara Professional while giving Clini-Kal a fresh and focused look.

Bara’s Visual Language, Built into the UI

The UI follows Bara Professional’s existing visual language, using its colors, typography, and style across filters, cards, buttons, and different states. These elements were brought together into a consistent and accessible UI kit designed specifically for Clini-Kal.

08 / Impact

From “Which Product?” to “Here It Is”

  • 3–4 Steps

From the patient’s clinical picture to a matched product.

  • 2 Approaches

Chinese and Western treatment approaches within one clear experience.

  • 1 Catalogue

Therapists can find a relevant product without knowing the full catalogue by heart.

  • Accessible

Clear text, strong contrast, accessible interactions, and a responsive experience across screen sizes.

Clini-Kal turns a large product catalogue into a clear, guided process built around the way therapists already think. Instead of starting with a product name, therapists can start with the patient and move step by step toward a relevant recommendation.
The experience was tested with therapists and refined based on their feedback, helping us simplify the flow, improve clarity, and make product selection faster and easier during their everyday work.

09 / Reflection

What This Project Taught Me

What worked well

Building the experience around the way therapists already think was key. Starting with the patient and following the natural order of treatment approach, body system, symptom, and diagnosis, helped me turn a complex product catalogue into a simple and familiar process. Testing the experience with therapists also helped to refine the flow and make sure the information and interactions were clear and easy to follow.

What I would explore next

I would involve clinical experts even earlier when mapping the connections between the Chinese and Western approaches. Some of the more complex relationships between symptoms, diagnoses, and products became clearer as the system developed and therapists began testing it.
This could help identify edge cases earlier and make the structure behind the experience even stronger from the start.
